Age Action and innocent drinks have launched the 2017 Big Knit, calling on the knitters of Ireland to produce 100,000 little hats. We’re woolly excited.

Age Action is calling on TDs to back a Bill to abolish mandatory retirement clauses that will be debated in Leinster House tonight.

More than 35,000 pensioners had their pensions cut because of changes introduced to the State Pension in 2012 by the previous government. This is according to a new report this morning from Age Action, Ireland’s leading advocacy organisation for older people.

OFTEC Ireland, Age Action and Helen McEntee TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Older People, officially launched a free guide, offering key advice to help older people using oil home heating to stay safe and warm throughout the winter period.

Age Action is urging communities to help ensure their older neighbours remain safe and well during the current spell of cold weather. The organisation also advised any older person who has not yet got the flu vaccine to do so as soon as possible. 

Age Action is urging the general public to visit older neighbours this Christmas, especially those living alone.

Age Action has warmly welcomed today’s publication by the National Safeguarding Committee of its five year strategic plan.

Age Action, Ireland’s leading advocacy organisation for older people, described today’s HSE 2017 Service Plan as very disappointing and said it ignores the crisis in home care supports. 

As negotiations on how best to protect the human rights of older people come to an end at the United Nations this week Age Action has published a new briefing paper, renewing its call for an international convention on the rights of older people.

Age Action, Ireland’s leading advocacy organisation for older people, told an Oireachtas committee this morning that the lack of an effective rural transport system was isolating older people and preventing them from accessing essential services.
