Age Action, Ireland’s leading advocacy organisation for older people, has described some of the practices uncovered by the HIQA report published today on Raheny Community Nursing unit as forms of ‘elder abuse’.

Age Action, Ireland’s leading advocacy organisation for older people, has responded to the pension reforms outlined this afternoon by Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty TD. 

Age Action, Ireland’s leading advocacy organisation for older people, has welcomed the increased investment in homecare services announced in today’s HSE Service Plan for 2018 while warning more funding is needed to enable older people to stay at home.

Age Action, Ireland’s leading advocacy organisation for older people, has welcomed today’s announcement by Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe TD that the mandatory retirement age will rise for public sector workers.

The abolition of mandatory retirement ages is a key campaign priority for the organisation.

Age Action would like to remind people that many older people are afraid of Halloween and are afraid of people calling and making a nuisance of themselves.  And we would like people as they are going around this evening to keep an eye out for any neighbours they think might be vulnerable. And please if you have bangers and fireworks don’t set them off near the homes of older people.

Age Action, The ICA and the NWCI hope that the Government live up to the agreed text of The Interinstitutional Proclamation on the European Pillar of Social Rights as agreed by the Council of Ministers of Employment, Social Policy and Consumer Affairs in Luxembourg on 23 October 2017.  

Age Action and the ICA welcomes today’s decision by the Dáil to call for the changes introduced in 2012 to the State Pension system to be reversed.
