A coalition of non-profit organisations and campaigners who represent those who use, and who provide, homecare in Ireland today launched a discussion document ahead of next month's planned public consultation on a statutory homecare scheme.
All of the organisations have welcomed the commitment from Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People Helen McEntee TD to launch a public consultation on how a statutory homecare scheme in Ireland might operate. The Minister has indicated that the consultation will likely start at the end of May.
"We are keen to ensure that the consultation is participative, open and transparent," said Age Action's Head of Advocacy and Communications Justin Moran. "We want to ensure that it addresses all of the issues that are relevant to the provision of homecare in Ireland.
"Over the last two months we have worked together with organisations representing carers, people with disabilities, those with chronic illnesses and other groups working with older people to set out how we believe a robust, transparent, public consultation can be delivered."
The organisations involved in producing the document are Active Ageing Partnership, Age Action, Age & Opportunity, ALONE, Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Care Alliance Ireland, Disability Federation of Ireland, Family Carers Ireland, Irish Association of Social Workers, Irish Hospice Association, Migrant Right Centre of Ireland, MS Ireland, Sage-Support & Advocacy Service, Third Age.
